About Saint Petersburg
Saint Petersburg was founded by Tsar Peter I to connect Russia and Europe. It was 300 years old and for more than two hundred years it was the capital of the Russian Empire. Now it is a sixth largest city in Europe and cultural and scientific center of Russia. The first official part and the Plenary of the Conference will be located at LENEXPO Exhibition Center along with the XV Forum and Exhibition “Russian Industrialist – 2011”, the largest industrial forum of Russia. The second and third days will be hosted by the organizing Universities.

Transport
Metro (underground) is a very reliable and cost-effective way of medium and long-distance transportation. Operating time of metro stations is usually 5:45 a.m. till 0:20 p.m. Cost: 22 rubles (≈ 0.5 €).
Summer is a beautiful time in St. Petersburg when the nights are white and the bridges are open. Travelling around, please, make sure that you are on the right side and bridge are not raised.

Attractions
There are a lot of attractions in old city of Saint Petersburg. You can exit from “Nevskiy Prospekt” metro station to be at center of it. You can walk along “Nevskiy Prospekt” avenue and quiet neighbourhoods around. There are a lot of channels there and you can taking a boat trip.
Kazan Cathedral
Whilst taking a stroll along Nevsky Prospekt you cannot fail to notice the impressive Cathedral of Our Lady of Kazan. It is a cathedral temple of the Russian Orthodox Church and dedicated to Our Lady of Kazan, probably the most venerated icon in Russia. It was modelled after St. Peter's Basilica in Rome. The Patriotic War over, the cathedral was perceived primarily as a memorial to the Russian victory against Napoleon.
St. Isaac’s Cathedral
The dome of St. Isaac’s Cathedral dominates the skyline of St. Petersburg and its gilded cupola can be seen glistening from all over the city. You can climb up the 300 or so steps to the observation walkway at the base of the cathedral’s dome and enjoy the breathtaking views over the city. It is the largest Russian Orthodox cathedral in the city and was the tallest Eastern Orthodox church upon its completion
The Hermitage
The State Hermitage is a one of the largest and oldest museums of the world. Its collections, of which only a small part is on permanent display, comprise nearly 3 million items, including the largest collection of paintings in the world. Out of six buildings of the main museum complex, four, namely the Winter Palace, Small Hermitage, Old Hermitage and New Hermitage, are partially open to the public.
Entrance is free of charge the first Thursday of every month for all visitors and daily for students and children. The museum is closed on Mondays. Entrance is in the Winter Palace from Palace Embankment or the Courtyard.
Peterhof
Peterhof is an immensely luxurious and beautifully preserved Imperial estate, founded by Peter the Great on the shore of the Gulf of Finland (Baltic Sea). It combines several ornate palaces, a number of beautifully landscaped parks and a dazzling array of magnificent statues and fountains, lending it the epithet “The Russian Versailles”.
The Peterhof town is served by three railway stations (Novy Petergof, Stary Petergof, and Universitet). The palaces of Peterhof are accessible by sea via hydrofoils based near the Winter Palace in St. Petersburg. The palace is also easily accessed by road. Public transit and private van services make regular trips from Saint Petersburg.
